No, however our product Mastiha Powder contains 39% inulin which is a prebiotic. Inulin is a natural fiber from radish roots that assists good bowel function by enhancing the development of good bacteria (probiotics). This product can be given instead of prebiotics, while ideally when combined with yogurt Mastiha powder with its strong antibacterial action can replace the administration of probiotics by mouth (or can further support the probiotics intake).
The mechanism of action between Mastiha and dietary fibers is very different, therefore they cannot be compared.
Fibers play a major role in digestive health, through their prebiotic effect. Fiber helps to keep the digestive tract flowing, by keeping bowel movements soft and regular.
Mastiha has strong anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and antimicrobial action and has a beneficial effect on intestines and stomach disorders. When mastiha is consumed it creates a protective film and through its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory action, it is used as a means of relieving gastrointestinal pain. Mastiha inhibits the growth of bad bacteria and due to its strong antibacterial action it is proven to also limit or even eradicate Helicobacter pylori.
Only our Mastiha powder, due to its content in inulin, can be compared to dietary fibers, and like all fibers, those are the “food” of good bacteria (prebiotic function – helping healthy gut bacteria to grow). In other words, inulin helps the development of probiotics, so that the digestive system works more efficiently. Hence, Mastiha powder can be given instead of prebiotics to promote the normal bowel function. In addition, when Mastiha powder is mixed and consumed with yogurt, it can replace the administration of probiotics by mouth.

We have tried to make our products accessible to everybody. For instance: There are people who can’t swallow or have difficulties swallowing a capsule, or others that prefer to rather incorporate the active ingredient into their diet (powder form) or who want a product that is consumed on the go, i.g. easy & without water (chewable tablet). Therefore, it is up to the consumer to decide which form of supplement suits their lifestyle best. All our products are based on our clinical trial results.
Based on the results of the clinical studies carried out, we have developed respective table with exact areas of application & administration suggestions. In particular, there is a detailed table which shows exact administration suggestions in terms of dosage and duration per product form and per disease. See more
When comparing the two products the main difference refers to the concentration of pure Mastiha. The 100 % mastiha capsules contain only Mastiha in powder form: so there is only Chios Mastiha 100 % powder inside. The 80 % capsules have been developed mainly for the benefit of having a lower price: since here the pure content in Mastiha is 80 %. In other words, within these capsules there are also some further ingredients as excipients inside. In particular, the ingredient list of the 80 % capsules is: Chios Mastiha Resin (Pistacia lentiscus var. chia) 280mg, Anti-caking agent: Magnesium Stearate, Stabiliser: Cellulose. Both Capsules consist of Hypromellose (HPMC).
The statement 350 mg on the front of the 80% capsule refers to the total content in powder within 1 capsule. But, the content in Mastiha- the active substance- is 280 mg in it. In other words, within the 80 % capsules the pure content in Mastiha is 80 % out of the total content, since there are also some further ingredients as excipients inside.
The 100% mastiha capsules contain only Mastiha in powder form: so there is only Chios Mastiha 100 % resin inside. Hence, here the total content of 350mg of power within one capsule is pure Mastiha.
